180 Ways to WLGM: #1 Ditch the Latte

Last year, I realized that I was spending about $20 a week on coffee. That’s ridiculous.

I could have said, “I’m going to stop drinking coffee all together!” but then I realized something…it wasn’t the coffee, it was all the horns and whistles I was adding to my coffee–the whipped cream, the steamed soy milk, etc. I didn’t need all of that.

So I started drinking regular coffee. Now, instead of spending $3-6 on a drink, I’m spending $1-2. It took work. I had to acquire a taste for much simpler coffee, but in the end it was worth it. I had to stop looking for a dessert and as a result, I was able to save more.

So ditch the latte. Want something less..something simpler. Give more.

Since WLGM began, we’ve been all about spreading the word to encourage people to Want Less Give More. One of the coolest ways to do that is with a t-shirt–and as of July 2011, WLGM has done just that! Each shirt is slightly different from the next with a vintage-inspired washed-out look.

Big thanks to Sean Gordy with Caribou Apparel. He’s our (very awesome) t-shirt man. Check him out!

As you may know, we have been voting for the best t-shirt color for the first Want Less Give More t-shirt on the blog here since early April.

While Heather Green and the not-even-listed Purple came in close 2nd and 3rd, we are proud to announce that the first WLGM t-shirt will be…

Black with white writing!

We are very excited about continuing the mission WLGM and we know that t-shirts are the way to spread the word.

Thanks for your votes and we have began the process of ordering the t-shirts this week.

Look for a link soon to pre-order your WLGM t-shirt!

we know that you have a lot going on today so we won’t hold you too long. we just wanted to give you a quick rundown of what’s been going on at WLGM and it should only take 31 seconds to read.

Japan bracelets

we are still making bracelets for Japan and giving money to the Red Cross. if you’d like to support, you still can.

t-shirts

t-shirts will be here soon. we know that “soon” is an ambiguous word that doesn’t give you a straight answer, but we’re doing what we can. voting is STILL open for your favorite color choice so you can go ahead and head to the polls to cast your vote if you haven’t already.

summer plans

WLGM is thinking big for the summertime. we want to go places and do things and help people. if you have any ideas in any area of the world, we want to hear them and want to help. here’s how.

that’s it. have a great day!

love,

WLGM

want less give more is not for everyone. why? because it’s not just about giving. giving isn’t the hard part.

it’s not as near as hard as it used to be to give. anybody can donate old t-shirts to the thrift store or charity shop. anybody can toss a quarter into a can. we live in an age where we can  even schedule donations to seamlessly be drawn from our bank accounts and never have to change a single action in our daily routine.

this shouldn’t be.

what good is there in that kind of giving? what good is there to just scrape off a little from our paychecks? what good is there to toss a homeless lady a quarter or two here and there instead of giving her our freshly-baked Starbucks pastries?

before, after, and during our giving it’s imperative that we actually care in our giving. it’s not enough anymore to donate a dollar here and there. we don’t even see our dollars anymore. why? we swipe debit cards now and worry about catching up later.

we HAVE to make sure that we are not raising money to take a summer long trip to small remote villages around the world because it will look great on a resume.

we need to do it ONLY because we care and there should never be any other incentive.
that is why WLGM is not for everyone. we are the people who care when we give. and when we give, we give for good – and nothing else.
